A Life Devoted to Vision
Ram Gopal Vijayvargiya (1905–2003) was one of India's most distinguished painters — the pioneer who brought the modern watercolour wash technique to Rajasthan. Across a career spanning seven decades, he wove together the lyrical refinement of the Bengal School with the vivid colour and folk spirit of his homeland, drawing freely from Kalidasa, the Hindu epics, and the poetry of Bihari and Omar Khayyam. As Principal of the Rajasthan School of Art he shaped a generation of artists, and in 1984 the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri.
